Microsoft discontinued the sale of the Windows XP Pro operating system last year, and come July 31, 2009, manufacturers will no longer be allowed to distribute XP Pro recovery media with computers we sell.
Despite all of this, and citing the fact that we at Foxtrot see an overwhelming number of customers who still want Windows XP Pro installed on their computers, we will continue to offer (and Microsoft allows this) our systems with Windows XP Pro loaded onto systems we sell with a Windows Vista Business license.
There are some limitations on the discs we can provide as part of the sale, but Microsoft has set no deadline for our ability to actually perform the XP Pro downgrade during the system build process. Microsoft has cited 2014 as a projected deadline for discontinuing support for the XP Pro Operating System.
There is no charge for selecting the downgrade option for any of our desktop/workstation systems. On notebooks, there is a flat fee of $25 to do the XP Pro downgrade.
